CHILDS is a menswear collection designed by Robert Childs in New York City. Born and raised in Key West, Florida, Robert moved to New York to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology for Menswear Design. After graduating FIT, Robert wenton to work for Thom Browne, Adam Kimmel and Opening Ceremony as the men’s collection design director, respectively. During his tenures with these globally recognized brands, Robert also oversaw collaborative collections with Moncler Gamme Blu, Dita Eyewear and Carhartt. These experiences helped define Robert’s aesthetic and refine his vision for the clothing he wanted to create, which would eventually lead to forming CHILDS, his namesake collection.
CHILDS approaches men’s staples with a modern perspective, elevating and reconsidering garments and revitalizing them with innovative cuts, while pairing styles with luxurious and sometimes unexpected fabric selections.
CHILDS aims to find the balance between understated and contemporary. The goal is to design garments for the next generation of the men’s wardrobe - things that feel familiar and yet are distinguishingly different and new. Through construction, fabrication and material, each piece of clothing feels special — and it’s on second glance, or while wearing, that you notice these intricacies instilled in each item and why they are so exceptional.
Crafted using only the best manufacturing facilities in Japan, Italy and the USA, silhouettes are disassembled and reworked, reconsidering function in a seamless blend of tailoring and innovation.
CHILDS vows not to be overtly fashion forward or trend driven. Each collection explores classic sportswear silhouettes and ideas, centralizing the collection around a specific archetype that helps define each season. Working to create a new men’s uniform — one that’s modern and comfortable — CHILDS pays tribute to the legacy of utilitarian design and American sportswear, which directly informs the brand’s approach.
