“It is a dream for a designer to be stocked in Corso Como” said Christian Wijnants, winner of the 2012/13 International Woolmark Prize, at yesterday’s event in Milan that gathered international journalists and buyers around the newly stocked pieces of the Belgium designer, along with some creations from the five finalists who will compete next February during the 2013/14 IWP global final in Milan.
“I think Christian’s work is cool because he is doing something innovative but at the same time traditional” explains Talent Editor at Vogue Italy Elisa Pervinca Bellini. “The nice thing with his collection is that everybody can wear it as it is something easy to style”.
After only a few weeks in the store, the collection is already sold out in Harvey Nichols London, confirming Wijnants’ structured and hand-dyed knitted dresses are ‘It’ items this season.
2013/2014 regional finalists also presented their winning wool looks at the 10 Corso Como event to some of the world’s fashion leaders including Tim Blanks and Carla Sozzani. In attendance was European finalist Sibling and Australian finalist Christopher Esber.
“It’s an honour to be one of the finalists; it is great to be recognised and to represent the country,” Esber said.
The jury will elect the winner next February, and given the incredibly high level of each designer, the decision will not be easy to make.
